Scanning Best Practices

Scanning Best practices

The following practices will generate the best results.

  • Cover all surfaces including, all 4 walls, roof and floor.
  • Try to cover all surfaces in a smooth, even fashion.
  • Scan each surface once, don't return to an area multiple times.
  • Avoid jerky movements while scanning.
  • Avoid large side to side motions.
  • Try to keep Q Sense 3-12 feet [1-4 meters] away from the surfaces being scanned.
  • When combining multiple scans in a building, stay in the same location between scans.
  • Ensure that there is some overlap between scans.

Treat Q Sense like a spray can. Try to cover all of the surfaces in an even coat of paint.

Large objects devoid of features, such as large blank walls, can cause Q Sense's tracking to drift causing errors in the scan geometry. Try to keep feature-rich objects (details or sharp edges) in the frame while scanning.

Ensure the iPhone does not get too hot. When the ambient temperature is high, allow the iPhone to cool between scans to avoid thermally throttling the CPU and reducing scan performance.
